Atelier (Ah-TELL-e-ay) is a French word for an artist or
designer's studio or workshop.

Nearly 15 years ago Grace Cooper realized a dream she
had been unwittingly moving towards for 30 years: to open
her own yarn store in San Francisco.  Sure she had
enough yarn to keep her busy for another 30 years, but her
passion had always been to share her love of knitting,
crochet, spinning and weaving with others.  She had been
practicing and teaching these crafts her entire adult life and
wanted to open her own yarn shop where she could share
her passions and the joys of hand crafts with others.

So in the Summer of 1991, Grace signed a lease & opened
the doors of Atelier Yarns, a warm and inviting shop full of
inspiring knitting
yarns and accessories from around the
world, and accompanied by a vast
schedule of classes
that caters to knitters of all levels.

Several years ago as knitting's popularity began booming
again, Grace asked (begged!) her daughter to help her
through the hectic holiday season.  Those few months
turned into a few years as Grace's daughter, Chaele
Cooper managed the store, taught classes and brought her
own passion for fashion and design to Atelier.

Today, as we lovingly support Chaele pursue her own
dreams as a successful real estate agent, we are happy to
announce that Grace has returned to the store, teaching
and enjoying the business more than ever.

And yet, it truly does continue to be a family affair as we are
very pleased and proud to announce the opening of
Atelier Marin, our sister store in San Anselmo.

Amanda Madlener, Grace's niece and Chaele's cousin has
opened her own beautiful store in Marin County! Amanda's
yarn store is spacious, bright and filled with gorgeous
yarns, books and accessories.  She also offers classes in
knitting and crochet.  Her class schedule and more info can
be viewed at
www.ateliermarinyarn.com.

We are immensely proud of Amanda and very happy that
she has returned to the Bay Area and her family!

All of us at Atelier Yarns think of it as an extension of our
living rooms and welcome everyone with any interest in or
curiosity about yarn and hand-crafts to visit and learn more.
Atelier's incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff will
work with you -- whatever your ability -- to find a project
and/or a class that excites and inspires you!
